Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Diverse Teams Outperform Homogeneous Ones. But Diversity Without Inclusion Produces Conflict, Not Performance.

The business case for diversity is settled. The harder question, how to build genuine inclusion rather than just demographic diversity, is where most organisations struggle. This course answers that question with practical tools, not theory.

35%more likely to have financial returns above industry median, McKinsey, companies in top quartile for diversity
2xmore likely to hit or exceed financial targets, Deloitte, inclusive teams vs non-inclusive teams
83%of millennials report higher engagement in inclusive work environments, affecting retention significantly

Are any of these happening in your organisation?

  • Your DEI policy exists on paper but has not changed how people actually behave
  • Diverse hires leave within 12 months because the culture does not make them feel they belong
  • Unconscious bias is affecting decisions but no one knows how to address it without creating defensiveness
  • Your leadership team talks about inclusion but does not know what it looks like in practice
  • You are trying to increase gender balance or national diversity but your retention of diverse talent is poor
  • Managers do not know how to have conversations about identity, bias, or discrimination without making things worse

This course translates DEI from principle to practice, with tools your managers can use the day they return to work.

Programme Outline

1
The DEI Landscape and Unconscious Bias

Why this module matters: A grounded, evidence-based introduction to what diversity, equity, and inclusion actually mean in practice, and why organisations that get it right perform better. Module 1 also tackles unconscious bias directly, with tools for identifying it in yourself and in organisational systems.

  • DEI definitions: diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and why all four matter
  • The business case in GCC and African contexts: evidence on performance, retention, and innovation
  • Types of diversity: visible and invisible, demographic and cognitive
  • Unconscious bias: what it is, how it operates, and what the evidence says actually reduces it
  • Bias in practice: hiring, promotion, performance assessment, and everyday interaction
  • Self-assessment: where does your own bias show up?
2
Inclusion in Practice: Leadership and Culture

Why this module matters: Inclusion is made or broken by the day-to-day behaviour of leaders and managers. Module 2 translates the theory into specific, observable behaviours and examines how organisational culture either supports or undermines inclusion, with particular attention to GCC multicultural workplace dynamics.

  • Inclusive leadership: what it looks like in practice, not just in principle
  • Psychological safety: how to create the conditions where everyone can contribute
  • Microaggressions: recognising, responding to, and preventing everyday exclusion
  • Gender equity in GCC workplaces: the specific dynamics, opportunities, and barriers
  • Generational diversity: managing across generations in GCC and African contexts
  • Cultural intelligence: working effectively across cultural differences
3
Building an Inclusive Organisation and Action Planning

Why this module matters: Individual behaviour change is not enough. Inclusion has to be built into systems, processes, and culture. Module 3 addresses the structural side of DEI and ensures participants leave with a concrete plan for what they will do differently when they return to work.

  • Inclusive recruitment and selection: designing processes that reduce bias and attract diverse talent
  • Equitable development: ensuring training, mentoring, and development opportunities are genuinely accessible
  • Measuring inclusion: what to measure and how to use data to drive improvement
  • Responding to discrimination and harassment: the manager's role
  • Allyship: how to use your position and privilege to support colleagues from underrepresented groups
  • Your DEI action plan: specific, committed changes you will make in the next 90 days

Common Questions

Is DEI relevant in the GCC cultural context?

Yes, and the course is specifically designed for it. DEI in the GCC has its own specific dimensions: national diversity (expat and local), gender equity in line with national visions, generational differences, and the intersection of religious practice with workplace culture. The course addresses all of these explicitly rather than applying a Western framework uncritically.

Is this going to make people feel guilty or defensive?

The course is designed to be practical, not preachy. The goal is to build skills, not assign blame. The facilitation approach is evidence-based and solutions-focused. Participants consistently report that they found the course valuable precisely because it avoided the lecturing tone that characterises many DEI programmes.

Can this be run in-house for our leadership team?

Yes. In-house delivery is particularly effective for DEI because it allows the whole leadership team to develop a shared understanding and shared commitments. We tailor the content to your organisation's context, challenges, and existing DEI commitments.
