Most Goals Fail in the Design, Not the Effort.

A goal set once in January and never revisited isn't a goal, it's a wish with a deadline attached. The professionals who reliably deliver aren't working harder than everyone else; they've built a system where objectives are specific enough to act on, broken into work small enough to start, protected by an honest relationship with their own calendar, and reviewed often enough to correct course before the year is lost. This course builds that system.

Systemgoal setting, planning and review as one connected cycle, not an annual event
Honest capacityplanning against the time you actually have, not the time you wish you had
Your goalsthe capstone builds a working plan for objectives you bring

Professionals without a structured approach to goals typically experience:

  • Objectives so vague that no one could tell whether they'd been achieved
  • Genuinely important work permanently displaced by whatever is loudest today
  • Plans built on an imaginary week with no meetings, interruptions or admin in it
  • Goals abandoned quietly around March, with no review that would have caught the drift
  • Constant activity that produces little visible progress on anything that matters
  • Saying yes to everything, then discovering there is no capacity left for your own priorities

This course builds the specific mechanics that turn intention into finished work, and the review rhythm that catches drift early enough to fix.

Who Should Attend

๐ŸŽฏ

Professionals With Competing Priorities

Juggling several workstreams and finding the important work always loses to the urgent.

๐Ÿ‘”

Managers and Team Leaders

Setting goals for themselves and their teams and wanting objectives that hold up all year.

๐Ÿš€

Entrepreneurs and Business Owners

Working without external structure and needing to impose their own.

๐Ÿ

Remote and Hybrid Workers

Where self-direction carries more weight than in a supervised office setting.

๐ŸŽ“

Early-Career Professionals

Building working habits deliberately rather than inheriting whatever happens.

๐Ÿ”„

Anyone at a Transition Point

New role, new responsibilities, or a deliberate reset of how they work.

What You Will Leave With

A working system, built around goals you actually hold.

โœ“Goals specific enough to act on, written so that success and failure are both unambiguous
โœ“Decomposition skill, breaking a large objective into work small enough to actually begin
โœ“Honest capacity planning, scheduling against real available hours rather than an idealised week
โœ“Prioritisation under pressure, deciding what genuinely matters when everything is urgent
โœ“Protecting focused time, defending the blocks where meaningful work actually happens
โœ“A review rhythm, weekly and quarterly checkpoints that catch drift while it's still correctable

Programme Curriculum

1
Setting Goals Worth Pursuing

Why this module matters: A badly written goal cannot be rescued by discipline later. This module covers what separates an objective you can act on from an aspiration you can only feel guilty about, including the harder question of which goals deserve your capacity at all.

  • What makes a goal actionable: specificity, evidence of completion, and a real deadline
  • Outcome goals versus process goals, and when each is the right instrument
  • Choosing between goals: opportunity cost and the goals worth declining
  • Aligning personal objectives with what your role and organisation actually reward
  • Setting goals under genuine uncertainty, where the destination may shift
  • Writing your own goals for the course, critiqued and rewritten by peers
2
From Goal to Plan

Why this module matters: The gap between a goal and progress is almost always a missing first step small enough to start. This module builds the decomposition and scheduling skill that closes it.

  • Breaking objectives into milestones, then into next actions you could start today
  • Identifying dependencies and sequencing work realistically
  • Estimating effort honestly, and why professionals consistently underestimate
  • Capacity planning against your genuine available hours, not a theoretical week
  • Building in buffer for the interruptions that will certainly happen
  • Deciding what to stop doing to make room for what you've committed to
3
Prioritisation, Focus and Protecting Time

Why this module matters: Important work rarely announces itself with a deadline, so it loses by default to work that does. This module builds the practical defences that keep meaningful progress possible in an interrupt-driven job.

  • Prioritisation frameworks and their limits when everything is genuinely urgent
  • Distinguishing important from urgent in practice, not just in theory
  • Protecting blocks of focused time and negotiating them with colleagues
  • Managing interruptions, notifications and the cost of context switching
  • Saying no, or renegotiating scope, without damaging working relationships
  • Delegation as a capacity decision rather than a last resort
4
Review, Adjustment and Sustaining the System

Why this module matters: Goals fail quietly. Without a review rhythm, drift is only discovered when the year is over and nothing was finished. This module builds the checkpoints and the honesty to use them, then assembles everything into a plan you leave with.

  • The weekly review: what to check, how long it takes, and how to keep doing it
  • Quarterly reassessment: adjusting, replacing or abandoning goals deliberately
  • Distinguishing a goal that needs more effort from one that needs to be dropped
  • Tracking progress in a way that motivates rather than discourages
  • Recovering after a period where the system lapsed entirely, which it will
  • Capstone: a complete goal and execution plan for your own objectives, with peer challenge

Common Questions

How is this different from your Time Management course?Time management is about how you spend the hours you have. This course starts a step earlier, with deciding which objectives deserve those hours at all, then works through planning, execution and review. There is deliberate overlap in the focus and prioritisation module, but the emphasis here is on finishing things that matter rather than on efficiency itself.
Is this about personal goals or work objectives? Both, and participants typically bring a mix. The mechanics are identical, and most people find that a system which ignores one half of their commitments does not survive contact with a real week.
I've tried productivity systems before and they didn't stick. Why would this? Most systems fail because they assume an idealised week and offer no route back after a lapse. The capacity planning module plans against your genuine available hours, and the final module deals explicitly with recovering after the system breaks down, because it will.

A Goal Without a Next Action Is Just a Wish With a Deadline.

Join professionals who have replaced good intentions with a system that survives a real working week.
